Ideas Bank
A New First
There are five ground-breaking projects underway to transform disused station buildings across our network. If you have a disused station building at your station, get in touch if you have an idea for its’ productive use.
We have worked with communities over the past couple of years to develop community-powered uses that will help upgrade the station as well as provide local communities with an invaluable and practical asset.
The stations with works underway are Ledbury, Wythall, Stratford, Henley-in-Arden and Great Malvern.
A few suggestions to inspire your team and help to bring your station to life
Make sure your station has a sign ‘somewhere’ to tell people the station is adopted by local people and how they can make contact if interested (usually via the TOC as per WMR with friends@wmtrains.co.uk)
Launch an online group for your volunteers
Tell the local history on a board set in a planter, this saves gaining two permissions for space
Think about ‘bee lines' and wildflowers to create a living environment
Organise rainwater collection for plant watering
Approach local garden centres for sponsorship of planters and planting
Install soft seating where possible
Ensure planters are accessible for all gardeners
Find ways to ‘green up’ the station
Develop local promotions
Reasons to visit your area
Promote rail travel
Please feel free to contribute your own ideas, they will be gratefully received by our community
