Setting up a CSP

A CSP meets the ‘four Pillars of Community Rail’ as described by The Department for Transport (2019) and also delivers the extra pillar as below:

The Four Pillars of Community Rail:

Providing a voice for the community

1

Promoting sustainable and healthy travel

2

Bringing communities together and supporting diversity and inclusion

3

Supporting social and economic development

4

A Fifth Pillar Proposed by Professor Paul Salveson MBE

(Member of The Rail Reform Group):

5

Grow passenger numbers and help the railways reduce costs

How does the CSP do this?

Brings people together with volunteer leadership

Wins 3rd Party investment

Creates improvements at the stations, good passenger relations & increased levels of rail travel

Develops assets for the railways with enhanced landscapes, rewilded land and re-use of redundant buildings

A CSP is a partnership between Station Manager, Train Operating Company and the Local Community.

We are happy to share the Draft Terms of Reference and Constitution with groups who wish to develop their own Community Station Partnership.
