Shenstone Station

  • The Group came together on 11th May 2021.
  • 5 Members of the Team
Over the past year, the group have:
  • Launched an art exhibition by members of Sutton YMCA regarding mental health
  • Celebrated Wimbledon fortnight by linking the village tennis club to the station
  • Opened a sub-branch of the community library at the station
  • Started to clear the bank above the car park and planted 2000 bulbs
  • For 2021 Remembrance displayed large poppies throughout the village, 12 of them on the station
  • Purchased and planted two planters to stand either side of the front door to the ticket office
  • In December launched a seasonal decoration competition using empty tennis ball tubes.  Fifteen entries received and were all stunning
  • Held a Christmas choir concert at the station featuring the Lichfield Rock Choir

Future plans

  • To install an Anatomic Kingfisher mural to blend with the ‘Cross City’ arts theme started by our friends at Wylde Green Station who installed the Urban Fox

  • Install two (or more) planters for the platforms planted up for the Jubilee along with bunting

  • Celebrate Shenstone Village Festival on 2nd and 3rd July when the station will be included in the 'Open Garden Trail'

  • Develop the station building as a unique wedding venue and community space

  • Install a coffee bar on the platform

  • Plant meadow flowers in the grounds of the station

Biggest challenge

  • Gaining understanding from some railway staff that our efforts and investments will benefit the industry

Why do we do this?

This station is a beautiful asset to our village and we want to enhance it and ensure it is a connected part of the community and here for another hundred years, for the villagers and for rail enthusiasts everywhere!
