Welcome to the website for Community Station Partnerships

The broad objectives of Community Station Partnerships are to encourage local people to adopt their railway stations, working with neighbours, friends and the Train Operating Company to develop their stations as community assets, bringing people together, enhancing the passenger experience and developing new demand for rail travel.

'Community Station Partnerships’ have developed during the year of national crisis and whilst society was constrained by Covid regulations, social distancing and lack of travel opportunities, the West Midlands Rail industry recorded a surge in community spirit and volunteer interest in our stations.

The UK has the largest presence of community activity at railway stations in the world...

As the industry looks to restore confidence and grow patronage, the partnerships between the railways and communities will be vital.

With a renewed emphasis on leisure markets as changed working patterns result in less commuting, localism and domestic tourism is predicted to prosper and as Peter Wilkinson, MD of Passenger Services at DfT says:

“We need community rail to help restore confidence in the railways and bring passengers back to rail”
